Gas leak closes streets in Arlington

A gas leak in the Pentagon City neighborhood has closed multiple streets in that area, which could create headaches for commuters heading home Monday night.

Traffic is closed around the intersection of 12th Street South and Army Navy Drive and the intersection of 12th Street South, Long Bridge Drive and South Clark Street.

While these intersections are on side roads, they are also near two key commuting arteries: U.S. 1 and Interstate 395. Vehicles can leave I-395 and emerge at the intersection of Army Navy Drive and South Eads Street, which is right around the corner from the closures. In addition, buses traveling into and out of the Pentagon and vehicles heading to I-395 use that same intersection. So these closures could reverberate out and cause problems for these busy locations.

Repairs could take several hours, according to an alert issued by Arlington County a short time ago, so expect these delays to last through the evening rush.
