Werner Herzog film takes on distracted driving

The Washington Post’s Ashley Halsey III has written extensively on the issue of distracted driving — including a article that found technology designed to enhance the safety of say, texting while driving, is not very effective.

On Tuesday, Halsey was one of several guests on WAMU’s “The Diane Rehm Show” to discuss the issue on the heels of a recently released flim by Werner Herzog about the dangers of texting while driving. The 34-minute feature is part of a new public service campaign.

Concern about the risks of distracted driving, such as when texting or talking on cellphones, has gained national prominence over the last few years. It was one of former transportation secretary Ray LaHood’s signature issues.

Lori Aratani writes about how people live, work and play in the D.C. region for The Post’s Transportation and Development team.
