Road closed because of government shutdown

The federal government shutdown is affecting roads and the region’s Metro system.

Commuters will find parts of Beach Drive closed Wednesday because of the federal government shutdown.

The road is closed between Wise and Broad Branch roads, where there is a stretch of picnic tables and restrooms. Drivers should find alternative routes.

On Metro, ridership was slightly lower Tuesday as some federal workers came in for a few hours and then left for home. As of 9 p.m. Tuesday, Metro’s rail ridership dropped about 9 percent to 632,000. That compared to the same time frame last week.
