Accident blocks Interstate 95 in Spotsylvania County

Update 7:20 a.m.

All lanes of northbound Interstate 95 are now opened after an early-morning accident had blocked the highway.

Update at 6:40 a.m.

Virginia State Police said crews are on the scene moving the vehicles involved in an accident on northbound Interstate 95 just south of Route 1 in Culpepper.

Officials said they expect the roadway to open soon. Three of the lanes have opened up although the left lane still remains blocked.

Earlier, the accident was blocking three lanes on northbound Interstate 95 near Route 1/

It had blocked all lanes of the highway at one point. At 5:30 a.m., Virginia State Police said one lane was getting by on the right side.

Drivers are advised to use alternative routes, as it is unclear exactly when the lanes will re-open.
