Deadly morning collision in Hyattsville

The northbound side of Riggs Road between University Boulevard and East-West Highway has reopened after an earlier accident.

Prince George’s County police said a man died after the vehicle he was driving was struck by another car on Riggs Road and Drexel Street in Hyattsville early Friday.

The incident happened around 6 a.m. The man was driving a Toyota Camry, with a female passenger inside his the vehicle.  The driver was making a left turn onto the northbound side of Riggs Road, according to police, when their vehicle was struck by a man driving an Acura.

The passenger in the Camry was transported to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries, police said. The driver of the Acura was taken to a local hospital for observation. No names were released, pending the notification of relatives.

Police  are investigating who had the right of way.

The northbound side of Riggs Road was closed for several hours between University Boulevard and East-West Highway, with accident investigators on the scene.
