I learned a very important lesson today: There is no such thing as a Ford Impala.
In a piece I wrote about one of D.C.’s most colorful taxi inspectors, I made a mistake. D.C.’s taxi inspectors drive Chevy Impalas. Thanks to alert Post readers, I can assure you that I will never forget that the good folks at Chevrolet make the Impala (you can see the 2014 model on their Web site right now).
Sorry, sorry, sorry. I should have known better.
But I hope my flub doesn’t take away from the point of the story, which was to highlight the work that folks like Andraea Benson do every day to ensure that everyone is following the rules when it comes to D.C.’s taxis. It’s not an easy job, but Benson, a five-year veteran, does it with a mix of good humor and toughness. Just ask her about the false teeth.
For cab drivers, it’s probably not the best moment when you see the hack inspector in your rearview mirror, but it’s all part of an effort to ensure that everyone is on the up and up.
Thank you for the feedback.
