Water main breaks in DC and MD could cause morning delays

December 2, 2013

Two water main breaks — one in the District and one in Gaithersburg — may cause Monday morning traffic delays and difficulties for area residents.

An old pipe ruptured near the intersection of Bladensburg and Benning roads NE.

Benning Road is shutdown in the eastbound direction as a result of the situation.

Another water main break occurred at the 100 block of Gold Kettle Drive in Gaithersburg. Authorities said Gold Kettle Drive in that block is shut down.

Crews said it will likely take several hours for both water main breaks to be fixed. Drivers are advised to take alternate routes.
