The anticipation is definitely building, but there is still no firm word on when the $5.6 billion Silver Line rail extension will open. But anxious commuters near the Wiehle-Reston East Metro station wondering where they will park need not worry: garages at the only Silver Line Metro stop with permanent parking have begun accepting reservations.
Commuters have several options. There’s the county garage, built as part of a public-private partnership, which has 2,300 spaces. If you’d like to guarantee yourself a space, it will cost you $65 a month in addition to the daily parking fee of $4.50 per day.
A private garage will provide an additional 1,100 spaces.
Parking rates in that garage are $4.75 a day ($4.50 with a pre-paid debit card). Folks interested in reserving a space have two options: the Gold Reserved package will cost $155 per month and offers a reserved space until 10 a.m. Monday through Friday; the Platinum Reserved package will cost $195 a month for a reserved and numbered parking space at all times. Through May 31, there is a $50 discount on Gold and Platinum reserved parking.
The parking facility also features secure bike parking for a yearly fee of $75, which includes a one-time $15 non-refundable fee for a key fob that allows you access to the parking area and application processing. After the first year, users will pay $60 a year.
However, through March 1, 2014, the Fairfax County Department of Transportation is offering special reduced rates for bike room memberships. If you sign up before March 1, you will receive a discounted annual membership rate of $45.
The first phase of the Silver Line will include five stops, four in Tysons Corner and one in Reston. Preliminary work on phase two of the rail line has begun, which will include a stop at Washington Dulles Airport, has already begun.
