Metro cancels late night buses, service for disabled riders because of snow

Metro said it is canceling its door-to-door driving service for disabled riders for Thursday in anticipation of the heavy snowfall that is expected to hit the Washington region.

Metro said it is also canceling about 30 of its bus routes that start after 1 a.m. Thursday because of the snow storm.

“We’re taking late night trips off the board,” said Metro spokesman Dan Stessel.

He said buses that are coordinated to pick up passengers off the last running Metro trains will not be canceled — just routes that start after 1 a.m.

“Anything that starts after 1 a.m. is canceled,” he said.

Metro said it would restore its MetroAccess service for those with disabilities once it is “safe to do so.” In a press release, officials said, “a time for service restoration is not yet known.”

The transit agency said it has not made any decisions at this point about how its rail service may be affected but it continues to monitor weather reports and will make adjustments if needed.

Metro is also canceling its board committee meetings that are scheduled for Thursday. They will be rescheduled for Feb. 20.
