Police said drivers should expect delays Monday morning because of an early morning accident on the outer loop of the Capital Beltway near the Branch Avenue exit.

The delays, U.S. State Police said, could extend up to five miles. Traffic is getting by on the left shoulder and on one of the far left lanes on the four-lane roadway.

The crash occurred just after 6 a.m. and involved two vehicles. Police said they did not immediately know the details of how the accident occurred, But they said some of the occupants suffered serious injuries and were taken to area hospitals.
