Officials at the U.S. Park Police said Beach Drive is open in both directions after an earlier closure of the roadway near Route 410, East-West Highway because of icy conditions.

Authorities said they expect Beach Drive to reopen within the hour, as they are waiting for road crews to treat the road.
The road had been closed in both directions at Route 410, East-West Highway, because of icy road conditions.
In Springfield, police said the southbound lanes of the Fairfax County Parkway reopened after an earlier accident there caused them to close it. Police had few details on the earlier accident there and the condition of those involved.

Authorities said Beach Drive at Route 410, also known as East-West Highway, in Chevy Chase is closed in both directions Tuesday because of icy conditions.
Drivers are advised to use alternative routes. It is not immediately known how long the roadway will be closed.
Road conditions throughout the region are treacherous after snowfall and ice, officials warn. Trucks throughout the region have plowed and salted the roads but authorities say many of the secondary streets are not yet treated.
Drivers are warned to allow extra time, slow down and to leave plenty of space between vehicles. While sidewalks are mostly shoveled, officials said, many roads have packed snow and ice in some areas and patches of black ice as temperatures are near or below zero in some spots in the early morning.
In Virginia, police said they closed the Fairfax County Parkway’s southbound lanes at Huntsman Boulevard in Springfield after an accident they believe was caused by icy road conditions. The condition of those involved was not immediately disclosed.
Police said the roadway would reopen when crews have been able to treat the area. They said it was unclear how long the shutdown would last.
