Get ready to strap on your helmet. Washington area officials have proclaimed May 16 the region’s official Bike To Work Day.
The Metropolitan Washington Council of Governments will host 79 “pit stops” that day along popular commuter routes and scenic trails in the District, Maryland and Northern Virginia. The pit stops will provide food, drinks and a chance to win prizes.
Last year, more than 14,500 cyclists participated in Bike To Work Day, an event aimed at reducing traffic congestion while improving air quality and public health. A complete list of pit stops and registration to attend one are available at www.biketoworkmetrodc.org. The first 14,000 people who register get a free T-shirt.
