Road closed in Northwest Washington

A tree fell onto a vehicle in the 4800 block of Cathedral Avenue NW, causing authorities to close the road.

D.C. Police wrote in a tweet that the road is closed at Cathedral Avenue and Idaho Avenue NW to New Mexico Avenue NW. The large tree is blocking the road. Authorities from the District’s public works department and police are on the scene.

No one was in the vehicle when the tree fell.

Many roads throughout the region were closed during Thursday evening’s commute because of the heavy rains. But most of the roads had reopened by Friday morning. More heavy downpours are expected later Friday afternoon, according to the Capital Weather Gang.
