Chain Bridge Road moving again after gas main break

Updated 6:16 p.m.

Chain Bridge Road in Fairfax County is moving again after shutting down for about three hours due to a gas main break.

Washington Gas spokesman Ruben Rodriguez said that a contractor digging on Chain Bridge Road struck a six-inch main. The line was shut down quickly, and no one was injured. No one had to be evacuated from any nearby homes or businesses, and no building’s gas supply was affected.

Fairfax police had predicted that the road could be closed for about five hours, but by 6:10 p.m., a dispatcher said that all southbound lanes and one northbound lane were open again.
