Update: Prince William Parkway open after fatal crash

Updated post at 3:30 p.m.

Authorities reopened both westbound lanes of the Prince William County Parkway, which had been closed for the investigation of a fatal car crash early Tuesday morning.

Jason Nathaniel Ayres, 37, was driving the wrong way on the parkway when he collided head-on with a woman’s car, said Officer Jonathan Perok, a spokesman for Prince William police. Ayres, who lived in Nokesville, was killed in the crash. The other driver, a 23-year-old from Alexandria, was hospitalized with severe injuries.

Ayres was driving a 2001 Subaru Impreza RS, and the woman was driving a 2006 Chevrolet Cobalt, police said. Police are investigating whether drugs or alcohol contributed to the crash, which happened near Crooked Knoll Way in Manassas shortly before 2 a.m.
