Two lanes reopen on inner loop of Capital Beltway after tractor-trailer crash

Updated at 1:32 p.m.

Two left lanes of the inner loop of the Capital Beltway near New Hampshire Avenue have reopened, following a chemical spill that shut down all lanes for about three hours.

A 10:22 a.m. crash near the ramp to MD 650 in Silver Spring caused a tractor-trailer to spill a chemical on the highway, Maryland State Police said. As of 1:25 p.m., police said they could not identify the chemical yet, though a hazardous materials team had come to the scene to assess the substance.

The accident involved the tractor-trailer and two cars. Police said the tractor-trailer lost control on the MD 650 ramp to the Beltway.
