About 12:30 p.m., police plan to reopen a section of the outer loop of the Capital Beltway near New Carrollton that has been closed for several hours due to a three-vehicle collision. Traffic is currently being diverted to a nearby ramp.
Maryland State Police said one person died in the Friday morning accident.
Authorities have also reopened lanes on the inner loop of the beltway because of the crash.

Maryland State Police closed all lanes on the outer loop of the Capital Beltway near New Carrollton because of the earlier accident.
Authorities also closed four lanes on the inner loop of the Capital Beltway. Police said traffic is getting by on the shoulder there.

Traffic is jammed Friday morning on the outer loop of the Capital Beltway near New Carrollton after a three-vehicle collision.
Maryland State Police closed lanes on the beltway because of the 8:50 a.m. accident. Authorities said the crash involved an SUV and two cars just before the Route 50 exit. There are injuries, they said.
Police closed two of the beltway’s four lanes following the accident. Traffic in the area remained congested an hour later.
