Update: Beacon Hill Road remains closed after Fairfax fire truck hits utility pole

A spokesman for the Fairfax County fire department said the four firefighters involved in the crash have been released from the hospital.

Police said the road is still closed, and it could be several hours before it reopens.

A fire truck accident closed Beacon Hill Road in the Alexandria section of Fairfax County on Tuesday morning.

Dan Schmidt, a spokesman for Fairfax County fire department, said the truck hit a utility pole at 4:14 a.m. on Beacon Hill Road. The road remained closed at 8 a.m.

Schmidt said all four firefighters who were in the truck were taken to the hospital for evaluation. They were heading to a fire alarm call at the time of the crash, he said.

Authorities are investigating the accident to determine what exactly happened, said Schmidt.
