Antonio Garay of the San Diego Chargers was fined $15,000 for hitting New England’s Tom Brady and Raheem Brock of the Seattle Seahawks was fined the same amount for his hit on Ben Roethlisberger of the Pittsburgh Steelers. Brock tweeted his fine Wednesday and ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported the Garay fine.

Both were in violation of the “Brady Rule,” enacted after Brady suffered a torn anterior cruciate ligament on a hit on his left knee in September 2008. The hit Sunday was on the same knee and, this time, Brady was unhurt .

“I’m glad I had a knee brace on,” Brady said Monday on WEEI (see photo). “Those are scary when you’ve been through those ones before. He got me in a good spot and I’m glad the knee brace took the brunt of the force. Why I never wore a knee brace before [being hurt] I have no idea and why every quarterback doesn’t wear one on their left knee I have no idea. It’s just so unprotected.”

Brock, who reportedly will appeal the fine and appeared to have been tripped by Steelers left tackle Marcus Gilbert, announced the fine and tried to explain what happened on the hit (watch here) that knocked Roethlisberger out of the game for two plays.

“Fined by the NFL today for being “TRIPPED” by an o’lineman and fallin into the QB’s legs! Smh if I only had super powers to stop mid air”

Roethlisberger, according to the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review, was walking without a limp Wednesday and said of his knee: “It’s sore, but it’s doing a lot better.”
