Aaron Rome will miss the rest of the Stanley Cup Finals.
The NHL suspended the Vancouver Canucks defenseman for four games for a hit that leveled Boston Bruins forward Nathan Horton in Game 3 on Monday night.
“Two factors were considered in reaching this decision,” Mike Murphy, senior vice president of hockey operations, said in a statement released by the league. “The hit by Rome was clearly beyond what is acceptable in terms of how late it was delivered after Horton had released the puck and it caused a significant injury.”
Horton will miss the rest of the series as well. He sustained what the Bruins say is a severe concussion on the play.
Boston trails Vancouver 2-1 in the series.
