Chad Ochocinco will live ‘childhood dream’ in MLS

Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver Chad Ochocinco is going to keep himself busy during the NFL’s work Stoppage. He’s going to play for Sporting Kansas City of the MLS.

On Tuesday, he’ll start a four-day tryout that, according to the team, will determine whether his stint is extended. Ochocinco played soccer as a kid and is friends with soccer stars Thierry Henry, Cristiano Ronaldo and Ronaldinho.

#OCNNBreakingNews I'll be playing on the MLS team @SportingKC on march 22nd, thank everyone involved especially coach Vermes #EPICless than a minute ago via Seesmic for Android

“We’re always searching for players who can help our team and bringing in new talent,” Manager Peter Vermes said in a statement released by the team. “We know that Chad is an exceptional athlete and that he loves the sport of soccer, and he did play a lot when he was younger. We’re excited to see how his skills will translate once he arrives next week and begins training with our team.”

Other players are turning to other forms of employment and/or amusement. Troy Bergeron, a wide receiver who finished last season on the Dallas Cowboys’ practice squad, is going to play for the Cleveland Gladiators of the Arena League. Baltimore Ravens safety Tom Zbikowski has a couple more bouts scheduled after a TKO. Donovan McNabb is focusing on college hoops, while interested observers focus on where he might play football next year. And Chris Kluwe, the Vikings’ punter, was joking. We think.

No steroid testing during the lockout. Time to turn myself into a middle linebacker!! #honkhonkless than a minute ago via Echofon
