When it comes to foul balls headed toward fans in the stands, former president George W. Bush is no Tiffany Goodwin. Admittedly, it’s a little easier in the minor leagues, but still ...
Goodwin, who came prepared with a glove, managed to snag a foul with one hand while holding her son, Jerry, with the other at a recent Richmond Flying Squirrels game. And her form was pretty solid, too. Maybe she could give lessons.
Bush and his wife, Laura, were seated with Ruth and Nolan Ryan, the Rangers’ owner, when the ball headed toward the stands in the Rangers’game against the Chicago White Sox in Arlington, Texas.
“Just cause he was the president doesn't mean I wouldn't jump on top of him,” White Sox catcher A.J. Pierzynski said he told Bush. He reported that Bush laughed.
(Paul Woody of the Times-Dispatch has the story behind the photo. By the way, Goodwin’s son, Jerry, is wearing a shaping helmet to ensure his skull plates fuse properly.)
