Jerry Sandusky trial: Jurors ask for further instructions

The jury considering the fate of former Penn State assistant coach Jerry Sandusky asked Judge John Cleland for to clarify some of his instructions late Friday afternoon, then returned to their deliberations.

Members of the jury will be sequestered until they reach a verdict and are expected to deliberate Saturday and Sunday. A 20-minute warning will be given if and when they reach a verdict. As they work, Sandusky waits at his home with three of his children and his wife, Dottie, his lawyer said.

Late Friday afternoon, the jury returned to the court room after asking that Judge John Cleland clarify instructions concerning alleged Victim No. 8 and hearsay.

On Friday morning, their first full day considering the 48 charges of child sexual abuse against Sandusky, jurors asked to have the testimony of former assistant coach Mike McQueary and Jonathan Dranov, a McQueary family friend, read to them. McQueary said that in 2001 he saw Sandusky in “a very extreme sexual position” with a young boy in a Penn State locker room shower. In testimony that partially contradicted McQueary’s, Dranov testified that he listened to McQueary describe what he’d seen.

The jury has asked no questions concerning alleged victims who testified; their questions have concerned only unidentified victims.

Jurors began deliberating around 1 p.m. Thursday afternoon and worked until 9 p.m., unaware of a statement issued Thursday evening by one of Sandusky’s adopted sons  who that he had been sexually abused by his father.  Matt Sandusky, 33, was not a witness in the trial.
