Martyball is back: Schottenheimer to coach UFL team

Martyball alert: Marty Schottenheimer will coach the Virginia Destroyers of the UFL this fall.

Schottenheimer, who coached a certain NFL team in Ashburn with some degree of success, has not coached since being fired by the San Diego Chargers in 2006. He also is general manager of the Destroyers.

“I am excited to lead the Destroyers and am eager to return to the football field in Virginia,” Schottenheimer said in a statement released by the team. “I have been impressed with the fervor and passion that has been created in the region for a team that has to play a down of football. I promise the fans there that we will repay them with a great product on the field and a franchise to make them proud.”

After spending most of her career in traditional print sports journalism, Cindy began blogging and tweeting, first as NFL/Redskins editor, and, since August 2010, at The Early Lead. She also is the social media editor for Sports.
