All along, quarterback Peyton Manning and wide receiver Reggie Wayne have been presumed to be a package deal in free agency, but the NFL Network reports that Wayne may not wait for Manning.
That may be a good thing, with the free-agent market opening at 4 p.m. EDT and Manning still planning to talk to at least one more team, the Tennessee Titans. Although Manning, released by the Colts last week, had planned to have made up his mind before opening of free agency, that is not the case.
Wayne is not against the idea of playing with Manning, his former teammate in Indianapolis, but Albert Breer reports that it isn’t a requirement for Wayne, either.
With Marques Colston reaching agreement with the New Orleans Saints today, the market opens up a bit for Wayne, who may be the second best option now behind Vincent Jackson.
As far as other big names go, defensive end Mario Williams has been linked to the Chicago Bears and the New England Patriots. Matt Flynn, the Geen Bay Packers’ backup quarterback, has been highly coveted, but may wait to find a new team until Manning makes his choice. Alex Smith is expected to re-sign with the San Francisco 49ers.
It all starts at 4 p.m.
