NFL Week 1 live: Arian Foster and Sidney Rice are out, Steve Smith is in on a day of 9/11 tributes

September 11, 2011

What to expect on the first Sunday of the 2011 NFL season:

There’ll be Sept. 11 remembrances and tributes — and increased security — at stadiums across the NFL, with players also allowed to wear special shoes and gloves without fear of fines.

For the first time, teams will display real-time fantasy football stats in stadiums.

To no one’s surprise, running back Arian Foster is inactive, sidelined by “anti-awesomeness in his leg” for the Houston Texans’ game today against the Indianapolis Colts — the Peyton Manningless Indianapolis Colts. Derrick Ward will start with Ben Tate coming off the bench.

For the Philadelphia Eagles’ dream team, wide receiver Steve Smith is listed as active, nine months after undergoing microfracture knee surgery. Vince Young (hamstring) is inactive.

Seattle wide receiver Sidney Rice is out with a shoulder injury.

Here’s the lineup of games today (all times Eastern):

Atlanta at Chicago, 1

Buffalo at Kansas City, 1

Indianapolis at Houston, 1

Philadelphia at St. Louis, 1

Detroit at Tampa Bay, 1

Pittsburgh at Baltimore, 1

Cincinnati at Cleveland, 1

Tennessee at Jacksonville, 1

New York Giants at Washington, 4:15

Seattle at San Francisco, 4:15

Carolina at Arizona, 4:15

Minnesota at San Diego, 4:15

Dallas at New York Jets, 8:20
