Between them, they have won 1,982 games. Individually, they personify the schools at which they coach. On Tuesday night, the winningest coaches in college basketball, Pat Summitt and Mike Krzyzewski, will receive Sports Illustrated’s Sportswoman and Sportsman of the Year awards in New York.

Tennessee’s Summitt has won eight national titles over a 38-year career and, after an offseason diagnosis of early-onset dementia (Alzheimer’s type), heads into the most challenging seasons and years of her life.

Duke’s Coach K has won four national titles, to go along with gold medals in the 2008 Olympics and 2010 World Championships. He is the only coach to have won the Olympics, the NCAA Tournament and the Worlds.

They join UCLA’s John Wooden (1972) and North Carolina’s Dean (1997) as the only college basketball coaches to be given the SI award.
