Oklahoma and Texas may be staying in the Big 12 Conference, but Commissioner Dan Beebe reportedly is not.
The departure of Beebe, according to a Kansas City Star report, is expected to be announced today.
“He’s working on his exit package right now,” a source told the Star on Wednesday night.
“A couple of weeks ago he told me privately that if the conference stayed together and he had to go it would be like lifting up a huge weight off his heart.”
No doubt. Reports earlier this week indicated that replacing Beebe, who has been commissioner since 2007, was a condition for Oklahoma remaining in the conference. Beebe, the source told the Star, is seen as favoring the University of Texas.
Meanwhile, the conference’s board of directors is expected to resume expansion talks again today with Brigham Young, Louisville and West Virginia possible targets.
