Report: Kellen Winslow Jr. headed to Patriots

The New England Patriots have quickly moved to fill the vacancy created when tight end Aaron Hernandez hurt his ankle Sunday.

The team will sign Kellen Winslow Jr. to a one-year deal, ESPN Boston reported. Winslow, who caught 75 passes for 763 yards and two touchdowns with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers last season, was traded to Seattle in May and released by the Seahawks earlier this month.

Winslow will fit into the Patriots’ beloved two-tight-end attack with Hernandez expected to miss at least a month with the ankle injury.

Maybe the signing will help distract from the “Where’s Wes?” drama over Wes Welker’s diminished role in the offense.
