New York Rangers forward Sean Avery found himself on the other end of enforcement early this morning, when he was arrested and charged with battery after shoving a Los Angeles police officer.
TMZ reports that officers answered a complaint about a loud party at Avery’s Hollywood Hills home at 1 a.m. He answered the door, shoved the officer and slammed the door. He was being held on $20,000 bail
Recently, Avery was one of the first athletes to publicly support equal marriage rights. In the past, the Rangers’ enforcer has been, as they say, no stranger to controversy, on or off the ice. His stick-waving, goalie-blocking antics led the NHL to implement an “Avery rule.” His 2008 comments about former girlfriends Elisha Cuthbert and Rachel Hunter drew a suspension.
