Tim Tebow has turned down a request to join CBS’s studio crew for the telecast of the AFC Championship game Sunday.
CBS Sports Chairman Sean McManus told USA Today on Sunday that Tebow’s representatives had been contacted about adding the Denver Broncos’ quarterback/TV ratings magnet/cultural touchstone now that the Broncos have been eliminated from the playoffs. Team Tebow’s decision was reported by Mike Klis of the Denver Post.
Detroit Lions defensive tackle Ndamukong Suh joined the crew that includes, Boomer Esiason, Dan Marino, Shannon Sharpe and Bill Cowher on Sunday.
Tebow brings eyeballs, not that NFL championship weekend needs them. Although the New England Patriots were crushing the Broncos — and Tebow — in an AFC divisional game Saturday, the game drew 30 million viewers. The wild-card game the week before drew over 40 million.
The AFC Championship game is at 3 p.m. EST Sunday.
