Peter Uihlein, the 2010 U.S. Amateur Champion, turned in a more-than-respectable showing in his first U.S. Open. The 21-year-old Oklahoma State golfer shot a 1-over-par 72.
“It was an up-and-down round,” Uihlein said. “I was 3 over early. Then I holed it out on [Hole] 5 for eagle. . . . I’ll take it. It’s my first U.S. Open. I’ll definitely take it.”
Uihlein, who also played in the Masters last April because of his U.S. Amateur win, admitted to having more than a few butterflies when he teed off.
“I was really nervous to start,” he said. “I made an awful double on the first hole. After I made that eagle, I was able to get a little more comfortable and played okay from there on out.”
