U.S. Open: Fluff Cowan, former caddie for Tiger Woods, relaxes before afternoon round with Jim Furyk

At one time, Fluff Cowan was nearly as famous as the player for whom he caddied, Tiger Woods. These days Cowan is on Jim Furyk’s bag and enjoying life as a member at Congressional Country Club.

Late this morning, Cowan plopped down in a large wooden chair atop the practice area, Marlboros in hand ready for a smoke. That’s when he realized his socks were on inside out.

A friend walked up to Cowan and asked: “Fluff, what’s the problem?”

“I’ll be all right once I get my socks right,” he said.

At which point he removed his shoes, turned his socks rightside out and got back to the business of relaxing before his afternoon round with Furyk.

Cowan caddied for Woods the last time the Open was at Congressional in 1997, but his most memorable highlight was meeting his wife Jennifer here. The couple lives in Rockville, and Cowan plays frequently at Congressional.
