Benson has a Lisfranc foot injury and is expected to be out at least eight weeks and possibly the rest of the season, according to a report from ESPN’s Adam Schefter citing two sources.
Last year, Texans quarterback Matt Schaub missed the final six games of the regular season and the playoffs after suffering a Lisfranc injury, and last week, the Jets lost wide receiver Santonio Holmes for the year to the same midfoot injury.
Benson, a late free agent pickup for Green Bay, sprained his foot in the first half of Sunday’s loss to Indianapolis and was carted off the field. He will undergo further evaluation this week, and if doctors deem surgery is necessary, Benson would likely miss the remainder of the season, according to the report.
The 29-year-old veteran leads has a team-leading 248 rushing yards for a Packers’ offense that ranks 20th in the NFL in rushing offense.
The Packers face the unbeaten Houston Texans and their third-ranked defense on Sunday night.
