New York Yankees Manager Joe Girardi plans to be in the dugout tonight, in spite of the death of his father earlier today on Saturday.

Jerry Girardi, 81, died in an assisted-living facility, where he had been battling Alzheimer’s disease, in East Peoria, Ill.

Girardi said he did not tell anyone about his father’s death because “he wanted the team to stay focused and he didn’t want to discuss it,” David Waldstein of the New York Times reported via Twitter.

General Manager Brian Cashman confirmed (via the New York Daily News) that Girardi would manage Game 4 of the American League Division Series against the Baltimore Orioles.
