Frostbite be damned, a swimsuit model’s gotta do what a swimsuit model’s gotta do…namely, bare nearly all for the sake of swimsuit journalism.

This year, as she did last year, Kate Upton graces the cover of the 2013 Sports Illustrated swimsuit issue. In this year’s photo, shot on location in Antarctica, the poor girl seems to be suffering from a fairly serious case of goosebumps.

Upton, the good folks at SI note, is only the fifth model to have back-to-back covers. Christie Brinkley (1979-81), Elle MacPherson (1986-88), Paulina Porizkova (1984-85) and Tyra Banks (1996-97) are the others.

The rest of the annual shoot traveled to the six other continents. And the models, who included BCS Championship game stealer Katherine Webb, hit the floor of the Stock Exchange on Monday (sell!) to promote the magazine, which is on shelves today, and “The Late Show with David Letterman.”

On “Today,” Upton confessed that she did indeed suffer for her cover shot but found inspiration in a seemingly unlikely place.

“The penguins kept me going. They’re adorable,” she said, “and any time I was like, ‘I can’t do it anymore,’ I would look at them and I was like, ‘Okay, for them [I can do it].’ I was doing it for the penguins.”
