With the deadline for applying the franchise tag to players at 4 p.m. EST today, the Miami Dolphins will tag defensive tackle Randy Starks, according to USA Today.

The decision would mean that the Dolphins are expected to allow left tackle Jake Long, wide receiver Brian Hartline and cornerback Sean Smith to become free agents when the market opens March 12.

USA Today’s Mike Garafolo reported the news, citing unnamed sources. Starks, who would get a base salary of $8.45 million for 2013, tweeted that he wanted to remain with the Dolphins.
