Is Wes Welker going to go from being Tom Brady’s favorite target to Peyton Manning’s?

The New England Patriots’ wide receiver, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, is in “serious talks” with the Denver Broncos. The Boston Globe’s Greg Bedard confirms the report and quotes an unnamed source saying it is “very likely” that Welker will leave Boston for Denver. Yahoo’s Michael Silver reports that a deal is “almost done.”

The Broncos have decent depth at the position, with Demaryius Thomas and Eric Decker, but Brandon Stokley, the No. 3 receiver and a close friend of Manning, is, like Welker, an unrestricted free agent.

Welker, 31, is the first NFL player with five seasons of 100 or more receptions.
