Ed Reed, the Baltimore Ravens’ free agent free safety, will visit with the Houston Texans today and, if he has no deal by the end of the day, is expected to fly to San Francisco to talk with the 49ers.
Texans wide receiver Andre Johnson is one of Reed’s close friends Houston has the geographic advantage of being close to Louisiana, Reed’s home state. The Texans already have made what the Baltimore Sun reports is “an impressive contract offer,” but Reed may not leave with a deal.
The Sun reported that, if that’s the case, Reed was expected to meet with the Niners, the team that traded for Ravens wide receiver Anquan Boldin earlier this week. The 49ers’ defensive coordinator, Vic Fangio, is a former Ravens defensive assistant. Another possibile destination could be Indianapolis, given that Colts Coach Chuck Pagano is a former defensive coach of the Ravens, too.
Whatever Reed decides to do, he’s joked that he’ll make a big splash with his announcement:
My tweets have nothing to do with contract. Just a laugh for the day. Tune in to my decision on tv.I will do it just as King James announced
