NCAA tournament 2013: Where the fans live, in one map

Which basketball conference dominates the country in terms of fan population? According to Facebook, it’s the ACC — with a smattering of Big Ten, Big 12 and Pac-12 fans, for good measure.

The social network mapped its 1 million college basketball fans by county, breaking them down by the teams and conferences they “like” on the site. The results are generally what you’d expect, but there are some surprises — like a sizable Tar Heels fan base in Alaska, and checkered support across the country for No. 16 seed Liberty. The Lynchburg, Va., university has the dubious honor of being the first 20-loss team to enter the tournament in five years.
