Syracuse star Michael Carter-Williams’s house caught fire last night

Michael Carter-Williams had a perfectly fine evening for No. 4 Syracuse on Saturday. The projected first-round NBA draft pick shot 4 for 8 from the field and scored 12 points, though he missed five free throws and committed five turnovers. Still, the Orange won 66-60 over California, advancing to the Sweet 16 to face either Indiana or Temple.

But during the game, his mother’s home in Hamilton, Mass., unexpectedly caught fire. Thankfully, everyone escaped safely. His sister, Masey Zegarowski, tweeted out her thanks for the widespread concern and assured everyone that the residents were safe.

Here’s the local news story, complete with video. According to WCVB, the fire erupted around 10:30 p.m., just after the Orange tipped off in San Jose.
