And now, a salute to the men who do one of the toughest, most under-appreciated jobs in sports: football’s long snappers.
These are the guys who toil in relative obscurity and must hit a punter or holder squarely in the hands while basically standing on their heads. So much for anonymity, though, now that Zach Smith, an Atherton, Calif., player who will head to USC as a preferred walk-on in the fall, has put together a nice little video of trick snaps.
In the video, Smith plunks a bunch of objects both stationary and in motion and hits trash can after trash can dead on. He even manages to hike the ball through two open car windows and plunk the cameraman in the groin vicinity, always solid American comedy.
Nice work. Now, let’s see Zach Smith do it with 350-pound guys bearing down.
