Shawne Merriman says ‘I’m fine’ after report of hospitalization (updated)

Shawne Merriman tweeted that he is fine and was merely dehydrated.

“I’m fine guys been working my butt off with training and launching LightsOut and my MBA,” he tweeted, “flew in from shooting a film in Canada and was…Dehydrated. @TMZ got me good though this morning lol.”

Merriman provided a link to a TMZ story that included a video shot Sunday night in which he was asked about deodorant preference, among other things.

Updated at 10:29 a.m. with report of an overdose

Shawne Merriman, the former NFL defensive end and linebacker, was taken to a Los Angeles hospital Sunday night because of an undisclosed “medical emergency,” LA police told NFL.com.

Merriman, according to the Los Angeles Times, overdosed on an unspecified combination of alcohol and a drug.

Merriman was tweeting until the early morning hours. At 1:19 a.m., he tweeted: “Damn I lost shades lol.” That was about four hours after he was taken to Cedars Sinai Medical Center. A little later, he added: “Had a fly ass @LightsOutBrand shirt on tonight #Ruined.”

Merriman, who played at the University of Maryland and for the San Diego Chargers and Buffalo Bills, was at The Colony when the call was placed at around 9:30 p.m. PDT, the Los Angeles Times reported.
