Ray Lewis is stepping smoothly into his new role as an ESPN analyst, but the one topic that people are eager to hear him address is the murder charge that former New England Patriots tight end Aaron Hernandez is facing.
And that’s one thing Lewis isn’t saying much about.
Thirteen years ago, he pleaded guilty to obstruction of justice after initially being charged in a double murder in Atlanta and seemingly could supply some perspective, at least about what Hernandez is going through. But don’t hold your breath waiting for him to talk about his or Hernandez’s case.
“It would only be to give a brief explanation on what you know,” Lewis told Richard Deitsch at MMQB.SI.com. “Because if you are talking about getting into the case — what happened, how it happened — that’s the judge’s job, that’s the police’s job. Having gone through the things I have been through, what I learned from that is everybody has something they want to say, and 80 percent of them are illiterate.
“You have to be careful with it. You can’t speak about something you do not know. Give your opinion, and keep it moving from there.”
