Jason Heyward leaves Braves-Mets game after being hit in jaw by pitch

Atlanta Braves outfielder Jason Heyward left the game against the New York Mets in the top of the sixth inning after being hit in the jaw by a fastball thrown by Jonathan Niese.

Heyward’s jaw, beneath the flap of his helmet, appeared to take the brunt of the impact as he turned away from the pitch. Still, he remained on the ground for a few moments before being helped off by a trainer. He left the game immediately and was taken to a New York hospital for X-rays and further evaluation.
