Rashad Johnson is doing nicely, recovering from the unfortunate incident in which the tip of his middle finger was severed during an NFL game.

The Arizona Cardinals safety underwent surgery Sunday night and shared, overshared really, pictures of his injury.

Here goes …

Johnson was able to joke about the injury on Monday, noting that he could use his thumbs to play video games and that losing part of his middle finger was okay because it “probably wouldn’t have been used for anything good anyway.”

Johnson joined his teammates Monday in Florida, where the Cardinals are staying this week rather than returning to Arizona and flying back for Sunday’s game against Tampa Bay. He wasn’t exactly sure how the injury happened in the game in New Orleans or whether he’d be ready to play Sunday. He is being monitored for signs of infection.

“If I had to take a guess, I would say maybe it dug into the turf there and snapped back and broke it that way,” he said (via the Arizona Republic’s Kent Somers). “My glove was torn or ripped, which makes me think it didn’t get caught in a facemask or a cleat stepped on it.”

He thought he had torn his fingernail, but, when the glove was taken off, part of his finger was left behind.

“The other part of my finger,” Johnson told “The Dan Patrick Show” is in a trash can in New Orleans.”
