In addition to being an actor, Daniel Radcliffe, a k a Harry Potter, happens to be a fantasy football wizard, which would be great enough news on its own, but there’s a twist: one of his fantasy teams is named “Barkevious Mingo’s Mum.”
“I just think Barkevious Mingo is the greatest name I’ve ever heard, and the fact that his mum invented that name is also amazing,” he told Samantha Henig of the New York Times Magazine (via the 6thfloor blog). “And in that league I have the Cleveland defense as well, and they had an amazing game the other day against Buffalo, so I’m incredibly grateful to the Cleveland defense, Barkevious Mingo and his mother.”
His star player this year? “Julio Jones for the Falcons. I’m always very, very grateful to him. I’ve got him in one league and in the other league I’ve got Demaryius Thomas.”
Like every fantasy player, he’s learned that smack talk can rebound viciously.
“I’m in a middling position in both leagues at the moment, so I’m not a subject of too much abuse. But in the league that I started this year, I played Dane DeHaan last weekend, who’s in [the film] ‘Kill Your Darlings’ with me, so we’re doing a lot of promotion together at the moment, and I made the mistake of really doing a lot of interviews in which I mentioned that I was going to beat him,” Radcliffe said. “I’m not normally that confident, and I was incredibly confident, for some reason, about this week, because he had Aaron Rodgers, who was out on a bye week that week, so I was convinced that would be my salvation. But I got beaten quite badly. Dane has been quite gracious about it, I have to say, but he has obviously let me know.”
