The Minnesota Vikings are likely to go back to Christian Ponder at quarterback this weekend because Josh Freeman suffered a concussion Monday night in the loss to the New York Giants.

It is uncertain whether Freeman, who started his first game with the Vikings, will be able to play Sunday against Green Bay and Coach Leslie Frazier indicated Ponder would be the starter if Freeman can’t go. Matt Cassel would be the backup.

Freeman, released by Tampa Bay on Oct. 3, was rushed into duty after signing with the Vikings on Oct. 6 and had a poor game against the Giants. It wasn’t obvious when Freeman was hurt Monday night, although he and Frazier said the concussion occurred in the third quarter. Freeman, who was having concussion symptoms today, must follow the NFL’s concussion protocol before being cleared to play again.
