Peyton Manning sat out practice at the Denver Broncos’ Dove Valley facility today, but it isn’t because of his neck or his arm. It’s because of a minor ankle injury.

Manning was manhandled as the Broncos lost in his emotional return to Indianapolis. He took a number of hard hits; on one, he coughed up the ball and the Colts came away with a safety. Some of his passes were wobbly, prompting concern about his neck and arm strength, but the team says he hurt his ankle at some point. He was present at practice, the Denver Post reports, but did not throw.

The Broncos host the Washington Redskins on Sunday afternoon.
