NFL trade rumors: Jared Allen, Larry Fitzgerald, Josh Gordon might be on the move

As trade deadlines go, the NFL’s is one of the least exciting, but that doesn’t mean there aren’t rumblings about moves that may happen ahead of the 4 p.m. EDT deadline.

The top three players being discussed are Minnesota Vikings defensive end Jared Allen, Cleveland Browns wide receiver Josh Gordon, and Arizona Cardinals wide receiver Larry Fitzgerald. Any of the three could certainly help any number of teams rise above the NFL’s slew of mediocre teams, but each would come at a steep price. This is a wide-open season, though, with next week’s games featuring only one matchup of two above-.500 teams.

Allen, according to a report from Jay Glazer of Fox Sports, could be had for the right price — apparently higher than a third-round draft pick. Vikings owner Zygi Wilf denied the report when asked about it by Michele Tafoya on “Sunday Night Football.” But it should also be noted that Allen is likely to be gone as a free agent after the season. Maybe the team decides to get something for him now. At any rate, Allen professed not to have any of that on his mind after the Vikings fell to 1-6 Sunday night.

“It’s not even something I’ve got to worry about right now,” Allen said (via Viking Update). “I got no control over that stuff. It is what it is. I understand the league. I understand how it works. I’m not an idiot. But my goal is to play football. My goal is to go out and play and win. I go out every Sunday and I just give it everything I’ve got. Sometimes it’s spectacular, sometimes you get double-teamed and sometimes you just can’t get there on time. And then sometimes you lose. But losing in this kind of fashion, I don’t know how to explain it.”

The Cleveland Browns made a big splash earlier this season by sending running back Trent Richardson to the Indianapolis Colts for a draft pick. Now, might they move Gordon? They’re seeking a second-round pick, according to NFL.com’s Ian Rapoport.

And then there’s Fitzgerald. Arizona Cardinals General Manager Steve Keim denied that he was interested in moving the wide receiver and Fitzgerald wasn’t about to discuss it, either.

“I come to work every day and just focus on how I can help the Arizona Cardinals and help my team win. If they decide to move me, that happens,” he told AzCentral.com’s Bob McManaman. “I have no control over any of that.”

CBS Sports’ Jason LaCanfora rates the chances of a deal involving Allen, Gordon, Jacksonville running back Maurice Jones-Drew, Detroit Lions running back Mikel Leshoure and Buffalo Bills safety Jairus Byrd as “fair.”

Players who have a “strong chance” of being moved today include Tennessee Titans wide receiver Kenny Britt, Cleveland Browns wide receiver Greg Little and Washington Redskins tight end Fred Davis, who hasn’t played in over a month.

Those are the players to watch. Who are the teams to watch? Four good teams with cap space and seemingly in need of a bit of help are Green Bay, Cincinnati, New England and Denver.
